Pioneers in Terracotta handicrafts and Home Decor items by Rural Indian Artisans

Handlooms and handicrafts in India relate to heritage. Despite social and economic significance, the ground for the Indian handloom industry was taking a side-step. Fortunately, today’s young minds, Ranodeep Saha, initiated a start-up, Rare Planet focused on the uplifting of rural artisans. He launched in 2017 while he was pursuing from IIT, Kalyani his BTech degree. Rare Planet is on a mission to provide employment to millions of rural Indian artisans and to elevate Indian handicrafts indigenous worldwide. Vijay Kumar, in 2019 joined as co-founder of the startup. He contributed his experience in lifestyle and retail. They together worked to connect the artisan families and brought over 2000 artisan families to join hands in making handicrafts. Initially, Rare Planet startup was to develop and sell Kulhad (teacups) terracotta-made offline and online. Now the Kulhads are crafted, painted, and also microwave-proof, making them reusable. Beginning with Kulhad, the product expansion now includes stationery, handicrafts, pottery, jewelry, and home décor products, from terracotta, bottles, ceramic, copper, wood, brass, and marble.
