Irish Examiner organises photography contest to encourage its readers who had a passion for photography. This contest provides a forum for amateur photographers to expose their talents to a wider audience and is also rewarded for their work. In today's technological advancement anyone with an interest in photography can take pictures with their smartphones or affordable high-end cameras. A good picture doesn't depend totally on technology and equipment but also needs a creative mind behind it. The photography competition received 3700 entries in 2020, out of which one overall winner gets €1000 and two runners-up will get €250 respectively. The lightning storm over the 12 Bens in Connemara in Galway taken by John Mulvany was announced as the overall Readers' Photography award-winning image. Nuala Corkey from Killorglin and William O'Reilly from Carron are the runners-up of the competition.
